Warwick Castle with kids: our 2024 visit

Warwick castle tower

Historical review: first published 25 August 2024. The family experience below relates to that visit. Check current tickets and the event programme separately; this is not a report of a new visit.

On our visit to Warwick Castle, the children enjoyed the castle walls, grounds and stories of past battles. Dragon Slayer was the highlight for us: the evening show used projections, actors and effects to tell the story of Guy of Warwick and the dragon. The children were on the edge of their seats, and I was too.

What stood out for our family

The original review also highlighted the birds of prey display and Horrible Histories Maze. Those details describe what appealed to us then. The current programme, show times and attraction availability need checking for the date you intend to go.

Tickets and passes: check the actual product

Use the official Warwick Castle website for a current dated ticket quote. Do not budget from the old £24, £20 or £15 figures previously listed in this article; they have been removed as current buying advice.

Read the official annual-pass comparison before buying a pass. A Warwick Castle pass and a wider Merlin pass are different products. Check included attractions, excluded dates, booking requirements and extras for the particular pass, rather than assuming unlimited access everywhere.

Plan around your family’s needs

The castle’s Plan Your Day page links to directions, parking, opening hours, accessibility information and the map. Use those resources to plan breaks and check facilities that matter to you, including pushchair routes, changing facilities and food options.

Check individual attraction restrictions before promising a child a particular experience. Evening events may have separate tickets and a different finish time from the daytime visit. Ask the operator if a detail is unclear.

Would we return?

We enjoyed the family visit described here, particularly Dragon Slayer. That is a personal assessment of that experience, not a guarantee that another programme or ticket will suit every family. Decide from the current offer, your children’s interests and the total cost.
