Looking for a fun and easy craft to do with your kids? This homemade playdough recipe is perfect for a creative afternoon. It’s simple to make, uses everyday ingredients, and provides hours of entertainment!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups plain flour (all-purpose)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1.5 cups boiling water (add more in increments if needed)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Few drops of glycerine (optional, for added shine)
Method:
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and oil.
- Add Boiling Water: Pour in the boiling water and stir continuously until it forms a sticky, combined dough.
- Add Color and Shine: Mix in the food coloring and glycerine if you’re using them. These add a fun touch to your playdough.
- Knead the Dough: Allow the dough to cool slightly, then remove it from the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes. This is the key step—keep kneading until the stickiness is gone and the dough reaches the perfect consistency.
- Adjust as Needed: If the dough is still sticky, add a little more flour until it’s just right.
Now you have a batch of soft, smooth playdough ready for playtime! Store it in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
